They went up again:ġ5": 83.6 (because you have to feed that DDR4 RAM) Initially the battery capacity was drastically reduced from previous generations, probably because Apple wanted to go thinner and they believed they could take advantage of improved Intel CPU and macOS power efficiency to be able to cut battery volume yet still deliver 10 hours under their web/video test.įor 2016/2017 models, the battery capacities were (in watt hours):ġ3" Touch Bar: 49.2 (yes, the faster more expensive model got less battery capacity)įor 2018, the battery capacities did not stay the same as you said. They have really played around with the battery capacity in both directions. The progression for this generation has broken that pattern. After four years, it is rinse and repeat. Then for the next three revisions, the physical size of the MBP and its battery stays the same while improvements in battery technology increase the battery capacity somewhat in every revision. Every maybe four years, Apple shrinks the size and weight of the MBP, which comes together with a physically (but also capacity-wise) smaller battery. The pattern behind this is fairly transparent. I think the batteries got slightly bigger too, but that only makes up for the fact that they cut them so much in the 2016/17 lines. It is that the new (to Apple) 8th generation Intel CPU is supposed to be noticeably faster the the previous, and that for the first time you can now get 4-core 13" or 6-core 17". Whether that will then result in the current 13" MBP escape getting killed or its price being reduced is hard to say. With all the rumours about a new lower-cost 13"-ish laptop model, I would not be surprised if both (an new 12" MB & a new low-ish 13" laptop) are announced at an event in September or October.
#2018 MAC PRO 需要买I7吗 UPGRADE#
The fact that it wasn't included in the 8th-gen Intel upgrade of the MBPs (as it was last year with the 7th-gen Intel upgrade) points in my opinion to it receiving more changes than just new Intel chips and spec upgrades (eg, storage). This position could be taken up by the 13" MBP escape.īut that still leaves the 12" MB which all expectations point to still being updated later this year.
For the last three years that was the 13" MBA. For many years that was the last pre-retina 13" MBP. I am not happy that there were no improvements to the low end the prices of the non-touchbar did not go down and the specs did not improve.Īpple has updated its laptop models every year, except for a low-end model that is kept unchanged in the lineup. In my view the main benefit for video is not the i5 vs i7. RAM at 16, SSD at 512 or 1T.Īt least with the previous generation, it was said that there wasn't much difference between the i5 and i7 considering the steep price penalty so I was going to stick with the i5, but keep the RAM maxed and make sure the storage was big enough. I'm looking at the 13" models, just can't decide between the i5 and i7.I do more video now so I need to check on if the faster processor actually helps any seems the graphics are the same between the models. Just in time, as mine (15" Retina i7) was recently stolen. But as a Mac user, those high end models are getting away from what I am willing to pay.
What Apple did was boost the high end of both the 13" and 15", which is where all the margins and profits are. I am not happy that there were no improvements to the low end the prices of the non-touchbar did not go down and the specs did not improve. Apple is now all-in on the Touch Bar on the pro models. My guess is that the non-touchbars are now what people will be pointed to who used to go for the 2015 MBP that they just stopped selling. We'll know over time if the changes made are enough to improve reliability. Sad to see they didn't change the keyboard more than they did, but we can't have it all.
#2018 MAC PRO 需要买I7吗 UPDATE#
It's also worth noting that the non Touch Bar models did not receive an update today.
